Roman Meal Bread Loaves

Roman Meal Bread Loaves

This artisan style bread is so delicious! Warm, fresh out of the oven, with just a little bit of butter, homemade bread is a treat. Made with flours donated by Roman Meal, one of our sponsors, we love baking these loaves with each child.

Ingredients

1 ½  cups Enriched Bread Flour
5 tbsp Roman Meal Original Mix
1 tbsp gluten
1 ½ tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp molasses
1 tsp active dry yeast
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 ¼ -1 ½  tsp Salt
1 tbsp non-fat dry milk solids
1 ¼ -1 ½  tsp Vinegar
80 mg ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
1 cup water

Directions

  1. Combine flour, Roman Meal Original Mix, gluten, salt, brown sugar, and dry milk solids in a large bowl.
  2. Stir the honey, molasses, and oil into the dry mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl/cup combine the water and yeast. You do this step separate in order to activate the yeast in the water.
  4. Mix in the yeast-water mixture with the other combined ingredients.
  5. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm area for approximately an hour (times vary depending on the temperature of the room).
  6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. After dough has risen, work small amounts of flour into dough until you are able to work the dough without it sticking to your hands.
  7. Knead the dough by folding and pressing the dough multiple times (you can use a rolling pin to help work the dough)
  8. Shape the dough or place in bread pan to be baked for 25-30 minutes.
